A New Era of Philippine Expedition Cruising
Scheduled to begin operations in 2028 following a complete rebuild, Philippines Explorer 1 will bring together proven ocean-going strength, innovative technology and refined comfort. Originally constructed as a North Sea supply vessel, she later served with the Royal New Zealand Navy and subsequently supported diving research in Micronesia. Her next chapter will transform this remarkable vessel into a luxury liveaboard for ambitious dive and cultural expeditions throughout the Philippines. Designed for guests who want to travel farther and experience more, Philippines Explorer 1 will feature modern diesel-electric propulsion, extensive soundproofing and gyro stabilisers for smoother, quieter cruising. Battery-powered overnight operation is intended to reduce engine noise and create a peaceful environment for restful nights at sea. Sustainability and efficient operation are central to the vessel’s new design. Accommodation will be limited to just 21 guests, increasing to 22 on selected full-boat charters, supported by a crew of 18. Eleven cabins will be positioned entirely on the main deck and above, with no guest accommodation below deck. Upper-deck cabins will provide access to private balconies, while the spacious Premium Suite on the bridge level will offer panoramic views across the sea. Four expansive decks will give guests exceptional space for privacy, relaxation and socialising. A swimming pool with an optional counter-current system will provide an unusual place to exercise during longer crossings or unwind between activities. For more leisurely moments, the vessel’s own craft-beer brewery promises a distinctive onboard experience. Philippines Explorer 1 is being created for divers and non-divers alike. Carefully designed itineraries will combine exceptional underwater encounters with meaningful experiences ashore—from remote reefs and encounters with humpback whales in the far north to regional cuisine, traditional markets and insights into Philippine history and culture. More than simply a larger expedition vessel, Philippines Explorer 1 represents an exciting new approach to exploring the Philippines: spacious, quiet and adventurous, with the freedom to discover destinations far beyond the usual routes.

Located forward on the upper deck is our spacious dining lounge with free flow drinking water, fully automatic coffee machine, tea selection, and non-alcoholic beverages. Self-serve snacks and ice maker are available 24 hours.
With dedicated camera charging and editing stations, our diving area doubles up as a space guests can enjoy even when not diving! The onboard reading library is also located on this deck where we stock fish and coral identification books for easy completion of dive logs and marine life identification.
While the Premium Suite has its own private balcony and view deck of its own, and the Deluxe Suites also have port / starboard balconies, there is an additional viewing deck space located forward of the wheelhouse so everybody on board can enjoy outdoor panoramic views of the Philippine islands as we cruise.
Extensive aft section of the main deck has shaded sun loungers and seating, as well as a resistance pool for those that prefer to swim against current in their surface interval!

As well as a good selection of wines, local beers and cocktails, an onboard craft brewery offers a taste of Philippines Explorer’s own craft beer, brewed on board in our own brewery!
